On My Workbench

I figured that with fellow modellers having a "my workbench" page that I'd follow suit. Although it's nut just modelling stuff I'll put here.

VPS Entropy

Entropy (ie the source of random numbers) is generated by keeping an eye on such things as mouse/keyboard use, hardware interupts. However on VPSs some of this is unavailable, so here's the process for using the bitfolk entropy service.

VPS Setup Guide

Introduction

This is intended to be a very basic guide to getting a VPS up and going, it's aimed at the hobbiest who has enough linux knowledge to want to use a VPS but isn't quite sure how to go about getting it up and going. It assumes you'll be using an Ubuntu VPS from bitfolk, if this isn't the case then some of the things in this guide may be slightly off.

Download & Transcode

Something I've just setup for MERG is a script to transcode recordings of meetings into several different formats. For this I'm using FFMPeg on an Ubuntu 8.10 VPS, below is a link to the instructions I had to go through to get it installed properly.

MERG Article - TOTI Motherboard

Bit of a short article this time around, I'd hoped to have been able to afford to be somewhat further along with this mini project by now. So I'll just cover the starting of the design phase.

Homepage View

On my site I;ve got my homepage (through a roundabout method) to display a certain node. I imagine there is a much better way to do it. This is done using the Views module and below is the exported view. Feel free to use it on your own sites, once you've imported it you'll likely need to make some small changes but it should be a good starting spot.Download as a text file

Recently Added/Updated View

On my site (and some others which I've used Drupal for) I have a block which shows the recently updated/added content, the advatange of this method is that I can decide which type of content to show and can place other limits on it too. This is done using the Views module and below is the exported view. Feel free to use it on your own sites, once you've imported it you'll likely need to make some small changes but it should be a good starting spot.Download as a text file

MyDetails View

One of the blocks on my site (and some others which I've used Drupal for) displays the currently logged in user's details, I mainly use this to allow me to double check which user I'm logged in as. This is done using the Views module and below is the exported view. Feel free to use it on your own sites, once you've imported it you may want to make some small changes but it should be a good starting spot.

MyContent View

On my site (and some others which I've used Drupal for) I have a page which shows the current user a list of their content, providing a central place for them to update / edit. This is done using the Views module and below is the exported view. Feel free to use it on your own sites, once you've imported it you'll likely need to make some small changes but it should be a good starting spot.

HHA Loads

So having got some HHA coal loads from Ten Commandments at the Perth MRC show a few weekends ago, I decided it might be an idea to paint them (one more small job out the way). Yes the photograph showed some missed bits (amazing how cruel a camera can be to a modeller) which have now been patched up.
